A series of huge surprises catches the Kids off-guard, including one final shocker that reduces everyone to tears.

Week #:

Overview of what happened this week:
There was an election on who should be the newest town council. Also, the crew won dental care over a BBQ feast after winning a showdown which included listing the US Presidents in order of history. No one at the Town Meeting considered going home. Mike and Taylor lost their council jobs, and were replaced by Guylan and Zach. Meanwhile, Greg finally won the $20,000 gold star.

How's the food this week?
They were supposed to have a BBQ feast, but the council chose dental care over that.

The lowdown on the showdown:
We will have to watch the episode then make the lowdown on the showdown.

Which team wins the showdown?
The Yellow District won the showdown.

Town reward:

This one was 5, which was dental care.

Town Council:
There was an election on who should be the newest town council. New council members are Zach and Guylan. Laurel stayed in office due to the fact nobody wanted to compete against her. Anjay barely won the vote off to stay in office. Taylor lost her job by one vote. Mike was voted out after almost every one voted Guylan.

Who is considering going home:
Leila: Markelle treated her and Taylor badly.

Who gets the gold star? Why?
Greg has been working real hard at helping, working, etc. The chart above shows you whos won so far.

Kids say (and do) the darndest things:
Markelle tried to ruin Taylor by destroying all of the "Vote for Taylor" posters. This lead to a big fight, with Markelle looking like the village idiot.

Kid Nation Week 4

Week #4: "Bless Us and Keep Us Safe"

Overview of what happened this week:
Religion seems to be on the minds of the town folk and coincidentally the subject of this week's entry in the Pioneer Journal. It instructs the Town Council to set up religious services to "feed the soul" as well as the bellies. After discussion, the Council decides against separate services and informs the town that they're going to be holding one service for all religions and that attendance is mandatory. The kids almost unanimously dislike this idea and the Town Council is shocked that no one attends their services later that day. Morgan takes it upon herself to arrange an informal gathering, attendance optional, no pressure and the majority of the kids take the oppurtunity.

How's the food this week?
The kitchen is still a mess from the aftermath of the yellow team's reign and after the showdown it doesn't look like it's going to get better.

The lowdown on the showdown:
The showdown this week is a Steeplechase (informing the majority of us viewers the origins of that word). Each team must put together puzzle pieces in the shape of a church. The teams must then raise their steeple and run across a line to win.

Which team wins the showdown?
Blue narrowly beats Red for the win and Yellow does the same with Green
Blue - Upper Class
Red - Merchants
Yellow - Cooks
Green - Laborers

Town reward:
A choice of a mini-golf course or a set of religious books. When Jonathan asks the Town Council to take a walk to discuss it, they refuse, instead letting the town decide what reward to take. The kids choose the religious books.

Town Council:
Taylor's leadership comes into play again as she fails to make good on last week's promise to do better. After the challenge, the town finds her and Leila in the Saloon, drinking "shots" rather than in the kitchen. When confronted about this, she just giggles and refuses to leave. When Zach complains about this at the Town Council, Taylor threatens that she'll make him scrub the toilets. Taylor seems to ignore this criticism, but the tides are definitely shifting against her.

Who is considering going home:
Cody, who is homesick and missing his girlfriend. He chose to go home.

Who gets the gold star? Why?
Morgan, for her quiet authority and the respect that she garners from the other kids.

Kid Nation Week 3

Week #: 3 "Deal With It"

Overview of what happened this week:
The kids go crazy in the saloon (doing non-alcoholic Irish Car Bombs, semi-disturbingly) and this means that once again, the yellow team doesn't get up to make breakfast. When the Town Council goes to the church and the book, it suggests that they start instituting some law and order into Bonanza - namely, a curfew. The town members react a tad negatively to this news and Taylor, in her common refrain of this episode, tells them to "deal with it."
Greg reacts... badly to not getting last week's gold star by screaming, slamming doors and yelling curse words at everyone around. After Morgan takes matters into her own hands, he seems to start pitching in again.

How's the food this week?
With yellow still in charge of the beginning, not very good. Rather than clean dishes, breakfast is served into the hands of the kids. As the status quo changes and green finally gets in the kitchen, they finally start eating a little better.

The lowdown on the showdown:
It's a rodeo as the kids have to find named sheep in a herd. Not only that, there are two sheep with each name, and only one has the Ace they need. Once the team has three aces, they win. If all teams win in five minutes, they get their town reward.

Which team wins the showdown?
Yellow, led by Colton's sheep wrangling experience takes the upper class.
Blue gets Merchants.
Green finally knocks Yellow out of the kitchen as Cooks.
Red are stuck with the Laborers.

Town reward:
A choice of a "pioneer" microwave and barell of cocoa or a huge box full of pizzas. After a split decision by the Town Council and to the dismay of many of the kids, the microwave and cocoa are chosen.

Town Council:
The kids are not happy with the Town Council, namely Taylor. Her defense of herself is that as the upper class, she doesn't have to do anything (no one mentions that she didn't do much before that). She promises to do better in the future, but a mutiny seems on the way.

Who is considering going home:
Mallory's thinking about it after Greg's profanity laden morning. She decides to stick through it with her sister, Olivia.

Who gets the gold star? Why?
Mallory, for being the youngest kid around and being mature beyond her age. She runs her general store well and isn't a push over. Plus, it's her birthday.
Greg and Morgan are the runner ups.

Kid Nation Week 2

Week #2: To Kill or Not to Kill?

Overview of what happened this week:
Faced the fact the town won't have enough protein to last 40 days, the council and the town vote to kill some of the chickens. Emilie protests by locking herself in the chicken coop until the town changes its mind. She relents however, and gives in when she realizes it's best for the entire town to eat. It's tough for all the kids to watch the beheadings, especially when the chickens still move around headless; it's too much for Emilie to handle, and she thinks about going home.

Greg is valuable as the person who knows how to butcher a chicken and run PVC pipe. (Coincidence? Hmmm.) He's also helping the laborers and cooks out along the way. He's a strong leader on the winning Blue team, but people are starting to think he's helping only to get the gold star.

Michael has a lot of team spirit, and water fetcher this time and an attitude that's going to be hard to beat.

How's the food this week?
Pretty horrible and bland--until the chicken soup showed up.

The lowdown on the showdown:
Pipes to the waterwheels!

Which team wins the showdown?
Blue District = Upper Class
Red District = Merchant Class
Yellow District = Cooks
Green District = Labor class, for the second week in a row.

Town reward:
Water pumps that never freeze, or a 40-foot heated water slide. Unfortunately the Green District missed the goal by a matter of seconds, so no one got the prize.

Town Council:
What's discussed this week? What are the biggest issues facing the town?

Sophia brings up the fact again that the Yellow Team isn't doing a lot of work in the kitchen, and the Green Team is having to help them as well as doing their own job. Taylor brings up the fact that they're the youngest group. "You all have the potential, so don't blame your age, please," says Michael. This will obviously be an ongoing issue.

Who is considering going home:
Emilie who decides to stay.

Who gets the gold star? Why?
Michael--and Greg is NOT happy.

"I can't help but smile when I'm around these people." --Laurel, even after her Green Team lost the town challenge.

Week #1: Arrival in Bonanza City, Getting Settled

Overview of what happened this week: The kids arrived on a school bus and were dropped in the middle of nowhere, about 3 miles from the town that will be their new home for the next 40 days. They are greeted by Jonathan Tarsh, a Jeff-Probst like figure who guides the kids through the episodes (and the only adult they have contact with). A helicopter arrives carrying the first members of the Town Council: Mike, a Boy Scout; Taylor, a pageant queen; Anjay, a spelling bee champion, and Laurel, a natural leader and oldest of the group.

They then are instructed to push wagons with provisions all the way into town, which is hot and thirsty work.

How's the food this week?
Well, the first attempt at macaroni and cheese was a pasty sticky disaster, stewing ominously in the tall black pot.

The lowdown on the showdown: Collecting colored water that the teams had to pipe out of the ground, then carrying their huge pump across the finish line.

How'd it shake out?

Red: Upper Class. They get paid $1 each.
Blue: Merchant Class. They get paid .50 cents each
Yellow: Cooks. They get paid 25 cents each
Green: Laborers. They get paid 10 cents each.

Town reward: Choice between 7 more outhouses or a television they can watch whenever they want. It's up to the Town Council to decide... Weighing the choice: TV could be a distraction, people will sit around and watch it. Opted for the outhouses, so now they don't have to wait in line anymore. "Yea, it really hurts your colon. A lot."

Sophia dances for change and gets enough to buy a bicycle at the store.

Town Council:
A forum to discuss issues, i.e. who's going to wash the dishes? How is the council doing?

Who is considering going home:
Taylor had a rough start, even though she was on the original Council, but turned around and opted not to after making great strides in confidence.

Jimmy: Sweet kid, one of the youngest at age 8, was just too homesick so opted to go home. "I think I'm just too young. It's scary." He looked really relieved to be heading home to his parents.

Who gets the gold star?
Sophia and Michael are in the running: Sophia for her cooking and leadership skills, and Michael for his inspirational speech on the first day. Eventually given to Sophia, who is gracious in her acceptance but loses her composure her bit when she learns it's worth $20,000. She also wins access to a phone so she can call her parents.

Kids say the darndest things:

"I'm so starved I could eat off my own leg." --Jared

"I'm a beauty queen, I don't do dishes." --Taylor

"This is a total kid nation. There's no president Bush, there's nothing."

"This is soap, not butter!" --one of the kids, trying to help with the cooking.

Saloon

Where rootbeer is only a nickel

Dry Goods General Store

Chocolate bars, candy everywhere, Shakespeare books to read, a bicycle.

Bunkhouses

Places for them and their fellow people to sleep and talk and playand have most of their fun and free time their in their bunkhouses.

Cookhouse:

This is where the people who get cooks, make food and wash the dishes and all that stuff.

Ranks:

Upper Class: doesn't have to do any work but they can help with the work if they want the gold star.

Merchants: sells items in saloon and dry goods store.

Cooks: cooks the food, (as bad as it is), and washes the dirty dishes.

Laborers: do all the dirty work, such as getting water, cleaning outhouses, cleaning the dump, and other things to keep the town tidy.
